Safeguarding Statement

King's Gate Primary School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

We have a number of policies and procedures in place that contribute to our safeguarding commitment, including our Child Protection Policy which can be viewed in the Policies section of our website and below.

Sometimes we may need to share information and work in partnership with other agencies when there are concerns about a child's welfare. We will ensure that our concerns about our pupils are discussed with his/her parents/carers first unless we have reason to believe that such a move would be contrary to the child's welfare.

We actively support the Government's Prevent Agenda to counter radicalism and extremism. 

Our Designated Safeguarding Lead is Mrs Sasha Owen (Head of School). Our Deputy Safeguarding Leads are Mr Jon Carter (Assistant Head) and Mrs Amanda Prout (Pastoral Lead) .

Encompass

ENCOMPASS is the reporting to schools, by the next school day, when a child or young person has been affected by a domestic incident. This is an initiative that has been developed to support children and young people and their families.

ENCOMPASS ensures that a member of the school staff, known as a Key Adult, is shared the information in confidence, while ensuring that the school is able to make provision for possible difficulties experienced by children, or their families, who have been involved in, affected or exposed to a domestic abuse incident.

The Key Adult at this school is Mrs Sasha Owen.

The safeguarding governor is Suzy Jennifer (contact Suzy at safeguarding.governor@kingsgate.wilts.sch.uk).

This initiative allows us to offer the best support possible to all our pupils and we believe this is an extremely beneficial for all those involved.

King's Gate Primary School Early Help Offer

We have a strong culture of safeguarding: children know they are valued and will be listened to.

We appreciate the importance of early help in our safeguarding duty, and we aim to recognise families and children who may benefit from early intervention and put this in place in a timely manner.

We ensure that our children get the support that they need, at the time that they need it. This keeps them safe and, ultimately, enables them to learn and develop.

As a school we follow safeguarding procedure set out by Wiltshire Safeguarding team alongside taking guidance from the DFE.

Prevent

As part of our commitment to safeguarding and child protection we fully support the government's Prevent Strategy, and prevent children from being radicalised.

The Prevent Strategy is a government strategy designed to stop people becoming terrorists, supporting terrorism, fundamentalism or extremist

behaviours.

The NSPCC Helpline - 0808 800 500

The NSPCC helpline provides help and support to thousands of parents, professionals and families. 

Year on year, the number of calls and online contacts is increasing and helping to protect more children.

The NSPCC helpline is a place adults can contact by phone or online to get advice or share their concerns about a child, anonymously if they wish. It's staffed by professional practitioners with backgrounds in jobs like teaching, healthcare and social work, who know how to spot the signs of abuse and what to do to help.

Parents and carers often have lots of questions, such as what is the right age to leave a child home alone, what to do about bullying or how to keep their children safe online.

Whatever the issue, the NSPCC are there 24/7 to keep children safe. Helpline staff will provide expert advice and support.
